Live School Radio at Viking Primary School

Eight new Broadcaster School Radio Stations are being delivered this month; our best month ever and proof that Educators believe in the transformational power of Live School Radio.  Designed completely around what young people told us they wanted and not the old kit that the radio industry doesn't want anymore, we have proved the value of Student Voice.  We warmly welcome our new customers and wish them well with their live School Radio Broadcasts.  Live School Radio has Never Been This Much Fun!

Russell's recommended reads for this term

This title has been around for a couple of years if you missed it, now's the time to read it.  How to break all the rules and get away with it, Russell loves this book.  Once you pick it up you just can't put it down, Richard writes with such passion.  A great short read.

Creating Tomorrow's Schools Today: Education - Our Children - Their FuturesRichard Gerver's "Creating Tomorrow's Schools Today" foreword by Sir Ken Robinson - this is a brilliant read.  "The Element:  How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything" by Sir Ken Robinson also highly recommended, this book will give you the feeling that you can tackle anything, this book could just change everything!
The Element: How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything

Russell has also updated his recommended technology list for the Autumn Term with a review of his new iPad, a brilliant new app called Tune-In Radio, and the Roberts WM 202 Portable Wi-Fi Internet Radio

Russell with a microphoneWe use The Anderton Tiger Radio broadcast channel to AIR our live Radio Shows that form part of our broadcasting activity.  Live Radio is different to Podcasting, because its live, our audience can participate in real-time, just like real radio.  Listeners can ask questions, contribute to discussions and give their opinions on a wide range of subjects.  They can text in too, we have a special standard rate text service, just send your message during one of our shows by putting the word RADIO at the start of your message and sending it to 85010.  Texts are charged at your normal message rate.  It is even possible to phone in live during the show.  Russell uses his own School Radio Broadcasting Equipment, The Anderton Tiger Broadcaster has Skype integrated into the live show control software so live callers can easily be put on air.  Russell will give the number out during the show.

Russell hosts a regular live show aimed at educators and parents exploring the latest learning technologies.  We also use this channel to broadcast live radio workshops with learners, educators and host live events throughout the year.  After broadcast programmes are often stored as podcasts and uploaded to our Listen-Again Podcast Service, these shows are then available again through our high capacity server.  Our shows also come in two formats usually broadcast simultaneously, one as a WMA Streaming Audio file, and one as a straight forward MP3.  The WMA stream is slightly higher quality but the MP3 stream is more compatible with a wider range of listening devices.  If you would like to know more about having a Live Radio Workshop at your establishment, please have a look at our Workshops pages where you will find details and prices for a whole day session with your learners.  If you are an event organiser, Russell may like to come and broadcast at your event, please do let Sarah know if you have an opportunity, there is often no charge for our participation as we like to support as many live events as possible throughout the year.
